Career Catalyst — Leadership for everyone
From childhood, I always admired the word, “Leader”. I thought it requires to exercise power and force or the possession of extraordinary analytical skill. Reminds you of military commanders or kings, right?
But when I started practicing some leadership on the work, when my lead fell sick for few weeks and I became a situational leader by choice, I understood. Typically as mentioned by W.C.H. Prentice’ s 1961 article, Leadership is “the accomplishment of a goal through the direction of human assistants”.
100% agreed, cause I possessed bare minimum skills, but could bring out all the necessary outcomes because of the pure support from the team. All I exhibited was empathy and empowerment.
A team is not with people who share similar skills, talents and knowledge, it is people who share similar goals, passion and commitment.
Human beings are not simple push buttons. If we apply force, they will become like automated machines and sabotage themselves at work and produce far lesser capable work. Also, pattern of every individual is different. Some will be driven by logic, others intellect or artistic, etc. Once you have the understanding, your work becomes easy with them.
